The Research investigated the influence of the some quenching media {water, Local Gin (Burukutu) and Sheanut oils} on the mechanical properties (tensile, Hardness and Toughness/Impact) of the aluminum manganese alloy. The research was performed in the Mechanical Engineering of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna. The solutionization temperatures used were 400oC, 450oC and 530oC respectively. Standard specimens from the rapidly quenched (artificial ageing) 6061 aluminum alloys were subjected to various tests to determine their ultimate tensile strength, hardness and impact strength. The results showed that the specimens heat-treated at 530oC and quenched in water have the highest tensile strength of 110N/mm2 and yield strength of 71.90 N/mm2. The specimens heated at 530oC and quenched in local gin gave the highest hardness value of 34.77 HRC. The toughness property of the alloy, as indicated by Charpy impact test values, was better at 530oC for specimen quenched in sheanut oil and the least impact strength was observed in specimen quenched in water at 400oC.
